Jalila al-Salman “80% of teachers have experienced a change in the educational field since 2011”

Mrs. Jalila al-Salman discussed her experience as a woman and educator in Bahrain. She described how the indiscriminate human rights offences of the Bahraini government have targeted women, teachers and students. This discussion brought about some appalling statistics, showing that 80% of teachers have experienced a change in the educational field since 2011 and of these, 50% have been subjected to at least 10-days of suspension or a salary cut. Mrs. Salman also recalled her own experience as a victim of human rights abuses, when she was tortured, sexually harassed, denied access to a lawyer, denied access to her family, and ultimately forced to sign a confession of a crime she did not commit.
